Ricardo Albacete Vidal has been involved in multiple controversial situations. This week he was arrested in Venezuela (along with Aldo Roso Vargas), linked to alleged plans to sabotage the country's electrical system and his alleged links to far-right organizations, having hosted the political leader María Corina Machado in the city of San Cristóbal. His lawyer has denounced that the arrest was arbitrary and that Albacete has suffered persecution, raids on his properties and the arrest of his employees without arrest warrants.
In another area, Albacete has been singled out as the alleged front man for Chinese businessman Sam Pa, who was arrested for corruption and treason in China. This link became more evident when it was discovered that the initial capital for the creation of LAMIA came from Sam Pa.
LAMIA, under the direction of Albacete Vidal, was involved in a tragic plane crash in 2016, where 75 people died, including most of the Chapecoense football team. Albacete, who until recently resided in Spain, has tried to distance himself from the current operation of LAMIA, claiming that his company only leased the planes to the Bolivian version of the airline.
